My first major crisis I remember triggered during the winter. Seeing as I lack a vehicle I have to walk to certain places, but I feel that I get abnormally tired in colder weather, and I hurt just a little more than usual; is that an attribute for anyone else?

Also, if anyone has information on the effects of depression on SCA persons please, please share it.

I know it's been a while, I've been a little busy being unemployed.

hi Cromartie,

It has been awhile for not only you but others as well. Winter time is not a good time for most here on the forums. One thing about winter & being exposed....especially walking in it....it tends to thicken the blood which for you is a big no-no because it would make the cells sickle even faster Crying or Very sad . If at all possible try to get a friend or someone to take you/drop you off/pick you up as much as possible.

Many deal with depression also especially during the winter...some has to do with lack of sunlight....some because it's just dang depressing being sick with the illness....and then just being cooped up almost afraid to get around anyone because you're afraid you'll catch whatever "bug" is going around at the time.

Talk to your doctor/health care professional....but please don't ignore it. It doesn't just go away....it can get better but unless you seek treatment it will come back. It can even be levels of Seritonin...when they become imbalanced it can really throw you for a loop!

Sorry I've been AWOL but there's issues going on here at home (health etc) then my darn car shot craps but we fortunately were able to buy a used one today from a very good friend. That made the 3rd time since last May....grrrrrrr!

I was hoping someone that has dealt with your problems would jump on here and give you some of their experiences but the "The Sickle Cell Disease Forum Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc." has almost killed this forum off by letting it crash so many times leaving it down for weeks/months at a time....it really makes me p*ss*d off we lost all of the good we have accomplished through "family" participation!I hope things are going better for you now...any job prospects or will your health permit it? I've been unemployed since Dec 21st when I landed in the hospital and still can't go back so I kinda know what you mean!

Talk to you soon,
Love,
Mamoo

P.S. your subject title says it all.....TIRED....one BIG symptom of depression!
