SCDAA Announces New Scholarship

The Grace Ojei SCD Overcomer Scholarship is developed for high school seniors entering into college or college students that have particularly worked to overcome obstacles and eliminate barriers to achieve their goals. Applicants must be diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease.

Scholarship Award Amount
SCDAA will award two (2) scholarships of $1,000 per selected Scholarship Awardee.

Who Qualifies
Applicant must be a:

  • High School Senior or Freshman or Sophomore in College
  • United States Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Individual with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Member of SCDAA or affiliated with a local chapter
Selection Factors
  • Grade Point Average: Minimum of 3.0 unless special hardship demonstrated (official transcripts required)
  • Quality of Essay
    • Essay Topic: Please write a personal essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, on any aspect of the impact sickle cell disease on your life or on society. The essay should explain any obstacles you have personally encountered and your work or desire to overcome them.
