Valentine’s Day is coming up, and SCDAA encourages you to show your love for sickle cell patients by donating blood on Valentine’s Day! Did you know that sickle cell patients benefit most from blood transfusions that come from people of the same race or similar ethnicity? A successful blood transfusion can mean the difference between severe pain and relief for a sickle cell patient; unfortunately, only five percent of blood donors are of African ancestry. Help us increase the blood supply this Valentine’s Day! It’s easy to get involved, just follow these steps:
- Find a blood center near you with America’s Blood Centers and make an appointment.
- Donate blood and snap a selfie of yourself while you do!
- Encourage your friends and family to donate by sharing your photos on social media using the hashtag #ShowLoveGiveBlood.
