SCDAA is proud to present the Nod to “Naz” Traveling Exhibit, which installs over 15 rarely and never-before-seen pieces of art by the late Hertz “Naz” Nazaire at locations across the country.

Hertz Nazaire immigrated from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, when he was eight years old. His childhood in Haiti inspired the colors in his large, vibrant paintings. Known for his advocacy work and “Finding Your Colors” adult coloring book series, he died of sickle cell-related complications at the age of 48 in 2021.

“As ‘Naz’ battled sickle cell disease, he used his art to advocate, educate, and spread awareness for his community. His large-scale paintings not only represent his pain and struggles living with the disease, but also the celebration of life and purpose. Hertz Nazaire used his gift to evoke equality and patient’s rights, and demonstrate to others how to embrace themselves, no matter what challenges you are born into,” wrote exhibit curator Jennifer Hartfield.
